Hundreds of USC Upstate students filled the lower and upper parking lots near the Child Development Center on campus, and everyone was enjoyed their break from studying. Smells of funnel cakes permeated the air, while amusement park rides were loaded with students. Students enjoyed the Campus Activity Board’s annual Oktoberfest on Oct. 10.

“Seeing on everybody on campus enjoying themselves was a great thing,” Kalan Rogers, junior physical education major, said. “CAB never disappoints us.”

From tug-o-wars to carnival rides, students like Dara Lane, a sophomore nursing major, loved the break from books and papers. “I was really excited to attend Rocktoberfest this year because last year I had to work. I wasn’t able to make it.”

The annual Jell-O tug-o-war, hosted by Delta Zeta, was Lane’s favorite event. “I had a blast participating in the Turtle Tug with the lovely Delta Zeta sisters and all the other festivities that were offered.” Lane is already excited for next year.

Fun rides and events were not the only things offered by CAB. Different clubs and organizations were recruiting in full force. Teachers Educating All Children, or TEACh, designed small cards to recruit any student from any major to come to their meetings. Rebecca Holmes, sophomore education major and officer of TEACh, said, “This event was a lot of fun! We shared with people about our club. We got to interact with non-education major students.” Commenting on the rides, Holmes said, “The rides were fun, and the food was better! It was a fun night!”

Some students wished to share their pleasure with how much fun the event was.

Megan Wong, senior psychology major, also lauded Rocktoberfest’s success. Rocktoberfest was a great and fun-filled event,” said Wong. “Not only was Rocktoberfest a wonderful way to relieve stress and catch up with friends, but it also displayed how unified the USC Upstate student body is.”

Whatever the reason a student had fun, there was something for everyone. All clues point toward an action-packed night. Some students are looking forward to the biggest event CAB hosts. Springfest is annual event hosted just days before spring break, and the biggest reveal is who will be headlining the even.
