Fotor021919334Music is a great way to connect with other people and get to know someone’s personality traits. There are many genres of music that each individual can relate to or love to listen to because of rhythm, the bass or just because it speaks to their soul.

Dr. Esther Godfrey is the PREFACE program coordinator of the PREFACE events held on campus for Composition 101 and University 101 classes. She offers courses such as English Composition, Honors English, Romanticism and Victorian Literature, Women Writers, and Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies.

Godfrey’s musical taste was influenced by “MTV’s 120 Minutes,” back in the days when MTV actually played music, and the beginning of big music festivals like Lollapalooza. Godfrey states, “I tried to go to as many live shows as I possibly could. I remember driving to see The Flaming Lips open up for the Butthole Surfers in Atlanta. Fun times!”

In her high school or college days, Godfrey gravitated towards non-mainstream music and alternative music and explains, “Listening to alternative music, as it was called back then, was hard to do living in a small town in the late 80s and early 90s, but I gravitated towards what was not being played on the radio.”
