Creativity can be rewarding

Photography Contest aims to bring out student creativity as well as activity.

The Upstate on-campus organization, Club Art and Design (CAD), is hosting a photography competition that began Feb. 17 and ends March 3. The theme of the contest this year is “Through a Child’s Eyes.” Lanie Walker, president of the organization, said, “This contest benefits students, non-profits, as well as Club Art and Design.”

Defenders for Children, a nonprofit child abuse organization, is helping sponsor the event.  Entry for the competition is just $5, with an allocation to submit 5 photos. CAD has also partnered with the Spartanburg Photography Guild as well as Spartan Photo Center for help with judging. Prizes included are a new tripod, flash diffuser, and $10 to $20 gift cards.

The club previously held a tattoo competition in which the prize was a $300 gift card to Dark Side Tattoo in downtown Spartanburg. The winner actually got the winning tattoo on himself.

For this competition you are encouraged to get creative. No actual children should be in the picture; it is the world as a child sees it. “It’s all about what the children see, their perspective… You can take your little brother or sister out and sort of capture things from their viewpoints,” Walker said.
